Using The EMS Mobile CAD Terminal
Login
The first order of business is to login to the system. In order to do this the computer must be on and working and the radio modem must also be on and working. The truck’s battery switch powers the modem: the battery switch must be “on” in order for the modem to work, it takes a minute or so for the modem to connect.
To login, double click the “Visual MCT” icon on the desktop.
After the program loads the login screen will appear.
Enter the appropriate information in the screen blanks. Both the Unit and Username is the unit number “EMSx” without spaces. The Password is available from the supervisor and changes at random intervals. Your “Officer ID” is obtained from the supervisor and remains yours the duration of your employment with us. Put one crew person’s ID in Primary Officer ID and the other person’s ID in the Secondary Officer ID field.
Status
We use “available” to indicate a unit is in quarters and ready for a call. A unit out of quarters for any reason other than being on a call is “OTA” (short for “On The Air”). You can change your status by using the OUT OF SERV and AVAILABLE buttons. To change from “Available” to “OTA” (on the air), click the OUT OF SERV (or use Alt-S) button. Open the drop-down menu box at OUT OF SERVICE CODE and use the up/down keys to find the code describing your status. We will most often use “HQ” (Out at Headquarters), “MEAL” (duh) and “OTA”. Use others as they apply. Highlight the status you want to display and press the tab key to move to the next field. “AVAILABLE FOR CALLS” is critical: it should always be “Y” (for “yes”) unless you are truly out of service as authorized by the supervisor.
