Renewing Your Credentials Online
This applies only to Buncombe County EMS personnel, others should consult their agency administration or their local Community College for renewal information.
Important Points:
- Don’t start this process more than 90 before your credentials expire; it will change your expiration and rip you off of 3 months of CE time!
- You are still responsible for completing all the CE requirements; 24 hours per year, 16 hours each of peds, medical and trauma, and the scope of practice exam.
- The entire process is online and there are instructions available. It will save you time if you first review the tutorials and read and follow the instructions.
The Process:
The NCOEMS uses an online application to process all renewals. In order to renew your NCOEMS credentials you will need to use your ID number assigned by the state (commonly referred to as your “P” number as it starts with a “P”) and your password. Click here for a pdf with the instructions on finding your P number and setting you password. Once you change your password from the initial default, record it so you can access the system again later without a big hassle. Click here to visit the tutorial page for the CIS system.
Once you have accessed the CIS system, search for our teaching institution; Buncombe County EMS. Click here to visit the tutorial page for the CIS system. (the tutorials are near the bottom of the page and may take a minute or two to load). Our teaching institution number is 11133. Find the course that matches your level of certification and join it. Once your CE and scope of practice exam requirements are met, the rest of the process will be completed without action on your part. You can use the CIS to keep track of your credential status to be sure it gets renewed on time.
