Rapid Sequence Intubation Procedure Review

There is no doubt that RSI is one of - if not the most evasive procedure to be placed in the hands of pre-hospital personnel. It is imperative that we endeavor to maintain proficiency in this important skill. Please review this information and fell free to pass along tips that may help others.
Indications
- Impending respiratory failure as in - Asthma, COPD, Chest Deformity.
- Unresponsive with loss of gag and protective reflexes.
- Obtundation and/or a Glascow Trauma Scale less than 8.
- Spinal cord injuries.
- Burns.
Conta - Indications
- Spontaneous breathing with adequate ventilation.
- Major facial or laryngeal trauma.
- Upper airway obstruction.
- Distorted facial or airway anatomy.
- Soft tissue/penetrating injury to neck, i.e., gunshot wound, stab wound with hematoma compromising airway.
